Safety

Safety Is Our Responsibility

Safety is a core value of UST’s culture. We are committed to the highest standards of safety performance possible. UST’s commitment to the health and well-being of our employees is embodied in our expectation that every project can and will be executed injury and incident free with zero recordable injuries. Our employees are our most valuable assets, and their safety and health is our first priority.

Safety is essential to all business functions and is never compromised under any circumstance. This expectation is reinforced daily by executive management, project supervision and all field personnel. We develop an organized and effective safety program for every phase of every project. Every jobsite, project and crew has its own unique character; there is no “one size fits all” approach to safety. We evaluate and reevaluate risks inherent in every activity performed every day down to the level of every crew member. We recognize the achievements, not only of those who directly supervise projects with outstanding safety records, but of all employees at all levels who are in any way responsible for safety, their own or the person working next to them.

Providing a safe work environment is every employee’s responsibility, every subcontractor’s responsibility and UST’s first priority. Adherence to safety policies is a condition of employment. Our safety program complies with all federal, state and local regulations, with emphasis on the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements for construction operations. UST regularly schedules formal field and classroom training in all necessary safety standards – fall protection, excavations, confined space access, forklift, aerial lift and crane operation are a few examples.

We have implemented numerous programs to help in achieving our high standards of safety. We adhere to a no tolerance Drug and Alcohol Program, a “Short Service Employee” (SSE) program to assist new hires and inexperienced employees to understand our expectations and philosophies, Loss Prevention Self Analysis (LPSA) system to assist in hazard recognition, audits, and evaluating loss/near loss incidents. As a result, UST’s Experience Modification Rating is one of the lowest in the industry.

UST is committed to creating a workplace that is safe, healthy and injury-free. We provide the necessary support to our entire organization to reach this common goal. UST is Upfront, Safety-minded, and Trustworthy. It’s who we are…It’s how we work.
